How much does a float cost? The one-line answer
The most-asked question in the niche, answered from the 290 centers in the directory that publish a price: a single float runs about $59, with most centers landing between $50 and $79. Which states have the most float centers per capita?
Nationally there are about 1.95 float centers per million residents — floating is still a small, specialist niche, which is exactly why where you live matters so much. The per-capita crown goes to Wyoming at 8.5 centers per million — 5 centers for a state of 0.6 million people — with New Hampshire at 5.7 and Alaska at 5.4 close behind. At the other end, Arkansas has just 0.6 per million.

How many float centers offer an open, no-lid tank?
The single biggest worry first-timers have is claustrophobia — so we tracked the vessel type at every center we could confirm. Of the 464 centers whose tank type is verified, 29.3% offer an open (no-lid) float — an open pool, an open room, or a pod whose door stays open — and 82.5% have an enclosed pod or cabin. Many offer both. If a closing lid is your dealbreaker, you have more options than you'd think.

Chains vs. independents
Floating is overwhelmingly a small-business niche: 566 of the 664 centers here are independent (85.2%), and only 14.8% belong to a franchise network like True REST Float Spa, Pure Sweat + Float Studio, Drift Float Spa.
