The Float Price Index (2026)

"How much does a float cost?" is the first thing anyone asks — so we built the number instead of guessing at it. We read the pricing that US float centers publish themselves and rolled it into one index: what a single float costs, what a membership costs, how prices spread, and how the states compare. Updated 2026-07-25.

The headline number

A single float in America runs about $59.

Of the 290 centers in our directory that post pricing, a single float session sits between $50 and $79, across a full range of $39 to $169 (a 90-minute float costs a little more than a 60). A monthly membership averages $65, which brings the per-float price well down for regulars. And the cheapest way in is a first-float intro deal — those average just $50.

What you'll actually pay: single-float price bands

A float isn't one price — it's a spread. Here's how the 290 priced centers fall out by single-float session. The tails matter: community studios and off-peak rates anchor the low end, while premium centers with newer tanks, 90-minute sessions and private in-suite showers push the top.

Read it as a floor on your homework, not a quote: these are the prices centers chose to publish. Many list only an intro offer or "membership from…", so confirm the current rate — and ask what's included (session length, whether a private shower and towels come with it, peak vs. off-peak) before comparing two centers on price alone.

The state price index

Where enough centers post a price to rank a state honestly (at least 3 with a published single-float rate), here's the median single float — and the median membership where centers publish one. Maryland sits at the top at $95 a float.

An honest note on coverage: pricing is the hardest field to gather, because plenty of centers only advertise an intro offer or ask you to call. So far 290 centers across 48 states publish a single-float rate — 43.7% of the directory. That's enough for a solid national figure, but thin at the state level, so small samples are flagged plainly and these rows firm up as our crawl grows.

Why float prices spread so far

Four things move the number, and none of them should stop a first-timer from trying:

Session length. A 60-minute float is the base rate; 90-minute sessions cost more (and many regulars swear the extra half hour is where the real reset happens).
Single vs. membership. A one-off single float is the most expensive way to float. A membership — typically a few floats a month on auto-renew — drops the per-float price sharply for anyone who goes monthly.
Intro offers. Nearly every center runs a first-float intro deal below its standard rate, so you can feel the tank before you commit a dollar to a membership.
What you're paying for. Newer tanks, an open (no-lid) room, a private in-suite shower, and a spotless cleaning spec sit at the top of the range; no-frills studios sit at the bottom. Both can be excellent — price isn't a proxy for a good float.

Methodology: prices are the centers' own publicly posted figures, read from center websites and pricing pages in our national directory of 664 float centers. "Single float" is a one-off session (we prefer the 60-minute rate where a center lists tiers); "membership" is the advertised monthly plan. Every number is a floor on coverage — a center only enters the index once it lists a price, so the sample (290 single-float prices, 43.7% of the directory) grows with each re-crawl. National median and quartiles are computed across all priced centers; a state is ranked once it has 3+ posted single-float prices.
