The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what True REST Float Spa • Austin South runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

Water & cleaning at True REST Float Spa • Austin South

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From True REST Float Spa • Austin South's own information: down to a 5-micron filter, UV sterilization, ozone, hydrogen peroxide.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

From the reviews

Literally a god send! I had only floated one other time at a place up in North Austin, this place is two minutes from my job so it’s a much easier location for me, upon walking inside I was greeted by Chas who was super friendly and just had a great vibe about him.

I experienced my first float here, and it was AMAZING! From the minute I stepped in the door, it felt peaceful and welcoming. The employees were super kind and helpful. The float was relaxing. The oasis was the perfect way to wrap up the event. I signed up for a membership, and I can’t wait to go back!

The good: a lot of effort has been put into the meditation room. It is a truly gorgeous space with its giant salt wall and the mesmerizing sand table. The ceramic mugs are a nice touch. Inside the pod room it was pretty much as I expected. Clean.

The highlight of my week is my float session of Wednesday nights to reset midweek. The float allows me to unwind deeply stored stress in the nervous system, feel held in the womb like experience, and come into deep center with the sensory deprivation. This is mandatory medicine for our over stimulated modern world.

Your first float at True REST Float Spa • Austin South

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
