The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Transitions Float RVA Short Pump runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🚪Float Cabins

A walk-in enclosure with full standing height — for taller floaters and anyone who wants privacy without a low lid.

Water & cleaning at Transitions Float RVA Short Pump

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From Transitions Float RVA Short Pump's own information: down to a 1-micron filter, UV sterilization, ozone, hydrogen peroxide.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

From the reviews

This place is everything! I go here for a float session, and every time I leave, I feel relaxed and healed. I chose the 90-minute float session that I highly recommend if you need a moment to just relax, meditate, or just some time to think. No phones, no one talking to you.. just the sound of your own thoughts.

AMAZING!! I came across this place while searching for a spa and it did not disappoint!!! I originally booked for the individual pod but after arriving decided to go with the cabin/tank instead just because it was bigger, the room itself had more space and it wasn’t as warm in the room like when you walk into the pod…

I visited Transitions Short Pump 2 days before Christmas. I’ve been going for over a year and it’s always a great experience. I was greeted by front desk employee Julie upon entering. She was very friendly and had already prepared the float pod in Room 2 for me. The 1 hour float was very relaxing. This spa is amazing.

I love this place, the staff is always warm and welcoming. The floats are always the blissful getaway that I need. I've been to two of the three locations and from my experiences things have always been exceptional. Transitions float is clean and organized. I recommend floats to my clients all the time.

Your first float at Transitions Float RVA Short Pump

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
