The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Salt Float Center runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

From the reviews

This was my first visit and I did not know what to expect. The staff was very attentive and walked me through everything in great detail. The float exceeded my expectations. I found it very relaxing and incredibly tranquil. It was peaceful and my whole body felt relaxed afterword.

My first time ever experiencing a salt float and it will definitely not be my last. I went with my boyfriend and we had two separate rooms. He enjoyed the pod while I opted for the larger room with the rain shower head. We both came out super relaxed, dare I say that it was better then a couples massage.

The place is clean and the atmosphere is perfect for relaxation. Only had good experiences with the girls at the front desk. My only cons are the side effects that can come about after a float (especially if you are someone that deals with sensory sensitivities) I felt nauseous from 30 min post session til the next…

I just realized that I never gave Salt the wonderful review it deserves. I've been floating for decades, all over the world, in tanks and pods, even swimming pools, lakes and the ocean. I could easily write a book on the wonders of floating, and it can be very different for different people.

Your first float at Salt Float Center

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
