The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Float Seattle (Greenlake) runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🚪Float Cabins

A walk-in enclosure with full standing height — for taller floaters and anyone who wants privacy without a low lid.

Water & cleaning at Float Seattle (Greenlake)

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From Float Seattle (Greenlake)'s own information: UV sterilization, ozone, hydrogen peroxide.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

From the reviews

The best float center around Seattle for sensory reduction (light and noise). Very simple and clean! I've tried floating a hand full of times and I keep coming back to this particular spot. The staff is always nice and seem genuinely interested in talking about your experience.

First time experience. It was quite relaxing. It really did feel like you were floating. It felt like I took a small nap, I think I took a small nap... but I cant be 100% sure. Its a strange feeling my husband also felt. Just lost track of time. If you're thinking about trying it, I would recommend.

Had my first float yesterday, and it was such an awesome experience! It took me a bit of time to get the hang of the actual mechanics of what to do in the tank (and I'll admit there's still room for personal improvement), but by the end, I was able to get into a nice, relaxing headspace.

Had my first float today and I can’t express how life changing this is going to be. I received such a thorough explanation on what to expect, I felt so safe and supported for a somewhat intimidating experience! The float itself was fantastic, and everything was super clean.

Your first float at Float Seattle (Greenlake)

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
