The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what First State Floats runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🛁Float Rooms

The room itself is the vessel: no hatch, walk straight in. Great for claustrophobia and easier access.

From the reviews

Floating is by far my favorite "self care" activity. Nothing matches the experience and the staff at a First State Floats. Each personal float experience has been different for me and I look forward to my time each month. The atmosphere and cleanliness of the facility is consistently above expectations.

I enjoy my 60 minutes of ME time to destress and relax. The float experience is very relaxing so much I've fallen asleep while floating and feel amazing afterwards. My body aches and pains are gone and it helps with my swelling of my ankle joints from being on my feet all week as a nurse.

I had my first float session on 11/4/21, two days before my birthday. I was recommended by a coworker. I booked it as a special birthday treat and I have been daydreaming about it ever since! One of the associates gave me a full tour of the space and walked me through the process.

Absolutely amazing! The staff are so kind, warm, and friendly! I WILL be back many times! Life changing! The tanks and rooms are exceptionally clean and extremely pleasant to be in! They make you feel very comfortable and secure in your private space and time in the tank. I can't say enough positive things about them!

Your first float at First State Floats

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
