The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Cloud 9 Float & Wellness runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🌊Open float (no lid)

No lid to close over you — the answer for anyone who feels boxed in. Open pools, open rooms, or pods whose door stays open.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

Water & cleaning at Cloud 9 Float & Wellness

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From Cloud 9 Float & Wellness's own information: down to a 10-micron filter, UV sterilization, ozone, hydrogen peroxide.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

First float experience! A friend and I went while in Boston for a girls trip and were looking for a warm and relaxing activity. We stumbled across this business on Google, called, and we're able to get sauna and float appointments within 2 hours of calling.

Great place! I have a monthly float membership and I look forward to it every month. The establishment is clean, orderly, and the staff are very accommodating. I hope more people begin to learn about floating as it truly is such an incredible tool for mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. Thank you! Jack (John)

The best in town! I always come here regularly and I'm always astonished by the cleanliness and professional service. The sauna, float, and PEMF treatments are hands-down amazing. It's pricey and most insurance don't cover these things, but it's well worth the value when you pay out of pocket.

I recently visited Cloud 9 Boston and had the opportunity to experience both their sauna and float pool services—and I was thoroughly impressed. The sauna was clean, well-maintained, and offered just the right balance of heat and humidity.

Your first float at Cloud 9 Float & Wellness

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
