No lid to close over you — the answer for anyone who feels boxed in. Open pools, open rooms, or pods whose door stays open.
The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

From the reviews
The massages and floats are the best in Portland. I have had massages from 4 of the licensed massage therapists and all of them were great, but if course I do have my favorite. The float tanks are big enough to accommodate my 6'2" body. There is a private shower in the float room for washing the salt of afterwards.
One of our adventures after the holidays was to try something new - and I'd always wanted to try floating so we signed up! The Float Shoppe is located at the far end of NW 23rd, where there tends to be a bit more street parking, although they do have a tiny parking lot in front of their building.
Jellllloooooo! And at peace 😀 that's how I felt after a 90min float and a 90 massage. I've gone in the past for just a float. Which in itself was amazing. But both?! Wow! Great staff and expirence. Highly recommend!!
I was nervous to try my first float. I had heard great things about sensory deprivation floating and so I was curious. Two friends and I decided to book appointments at the same time and try it. It made us all feel better about our first visit but honestly, it was not necessary. The experience was so wonderful.
Your first float at The Float Shoppe
Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.
