The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what The Float Institute runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🚪Float Cabins

A walk-in enclosure with full standing height — for taller floaters and anyone who wants privacy without a low lid.

Water & cleaning at The Float Institute

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From The Float Institute's own information: UV sterilization.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

Also under this roof

Many floaters stack their session with contrast therapy the same day. Beyond the float tank, The Float Institute also offers:

From the reviews

Heard about sensory deprivation tanks on the Joe Rogan show for years and always wanted to try it. As I suffer from Claustrophobia, I was reluctant to give it a try. Last week, I discovered The Float Institute on Groupon and booked a float for my daughter as a means for stress relief for her.

Today was my first float and I can’t say enough about the experience! The facility is exceptionally clean! The rooms are very private, private shower, the enclosed float is amazing! I floated in the dark and all I could hear is faint under water spa music and my breath. I came in with hip pain , leaving without pain.

Had an great first float here. Keith was the attendant and explained everything very thoroughly and made me feel at ease and welcome. The rooms were clean and they provided everything you need. It's hard to describe the experience and it will be different for everyone but I loved it and will definitely be back!

Your first float at The Float Institute

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
