The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Sonder Mind and Body runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🚪Float Cabins

A walk-in enclosure with full standing height — for taller floaters and anyone who wants privacy without a low lid.

From the reviews

This place is the best! I did the float and massage package. The pod is neat. It's not very deep and you automatically float. I was SO relaxed when my time was done, I didn't want to get out. Paul did my massage. He was very nice and made me feel relaxed. I will definitely go back.

Amazing place to help with the healing process. Not on my physically but mentally, emotionally and some would say spiritually. They offer a.m. sorts of rad things. There are two float tanks. Which if you have never floated before you are missing out! Its like no other experience!

Visited Sonder for Hypnotherapy with Lauren. One of the best decisions I ever made. Sonder has so many different Holistic options to help improve your physical and mental well being. I'm interested in doing their Color Sauna and Flotation Therapy next.

I tried the float pod and it was a great experience! The whole wellness center is really clean. The room the pod is in has a shower so I can easily shower before and after floating. It was my first time floating and I found it very relaxing. The water has epsom salt. I can control the music and light.

Your first float at Sonder Mind and Body

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
