The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what atvara hot yoga lounge runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🚪Float Cabins

A walk-in enclosure with full standing height — for taller floaters and anyone who wants privacy without a low lid.

Water & cleaning at atvara hot yoga lounge

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From atvara hot yoga lounge's own information: UV sterilization.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

From the reviews

Great experience doing the floating sensory deprivation tank! It was my first time ever doing one, and the folks at atvara made me feel so comfortable and welcome. For those who are nervous about trying it, I too was nervous but it ended up being so wonderful and relaxing.

The facilities are top notch, super impressive for a little town like Kernersville. I tried the sensory deprivation float for the first time and it was very zen and restorative. The hot yoga studio is spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. I'll be back for sure!

I had my first visit to Atvara in November. I did the flotation therapy. It was so relaxing! Everyone that I dealt with at the front desk or on the phone was super kind. They made the process easy to understand, made me feel very special, and took great care of me.

I personally visited the Salt Room and it was absolutely fabulous! The bed was really warm and felt great on my body, walking around in the room and just sitting with my feet in the rocks were so relaxing. Definitely recommend this. Anxious to try the float tank too!

Your first float at atvara hot yoga lounge

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
