The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Kume Float & Cryo Spa runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🌊Open float (no lid)

No lid to close over you — the answer for anyone who feels boxed in. Open pools, open rooms, or pods whose door stays open.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🛁Float Rooms

The room itself is the vessel: no hatch, walk straight in. Great for claustrophobia and easier access.

From the reviews

I came here and did the cryo therapy followed by the cocoon heat therapy and finished with an hour float for a full sensory deprivation. I've tried other float pods and Kume float is the best out of the ones I've tried. Just make sure you don't shave the day before going in.

This week was INTENSE. Like wake up at 0400 to prep for a live east coast radio interview and continue waking up at o-dark-30 every day cuz circadian rhythm... intense. So tonight after picking up kiddo from parade practice, I sat in the car and thought... "what are the chances I could find a place to float RIGHT NOW?

I had a wonderful experience floating at Kume! I felt prepared coming in after watching their instructional video, and the staff was very inviting. The ambiance was also calming, from live plants in the waiting area to complimentary body wash that smelled amazing. I definitely recommend if you’re looking to relax!

Wowza! What a relaxing and luxurious experience. My first float tank experience. After a stressful week, all the tension in my mind, body, and energy was GONE. I was completely weightless and held in a container specifically for me. I didn't know this was what I needed to make a part of my monthly regime.

Your first float at Kume Float & Cryo Spa

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
