From the reviews
I've gone here for years and every time I've visited it has been wonderful. I used to have a membership and float weekly and found that this helped me manage chronic pain and anxiety. The dry sauna and cold bath was always a treat, and again soothing to my body.
5+ Stars! I wholeheartedly recommend! The first time I went, I was in so much pain and extremely sleep deprived. After a 90 minute float, I was pain free and felt like I had slept for two weeks! I forgot to write a review and now have been floating here for a few years, which changed my life in such positive ways.
I recently did my first float and it was a great experience. Patrick was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions before and after the float! The float was awesome and the facility was clean and well kept. I would suggest to anyone to just go and visit with Patrick and tour the facility.
Going to the Iowa Recovery Room has been an amazing experience every time. The owner and receptionists are always super pleasant to interact with. The sauna/cold plunge combo is great and following it up with a float is even better! I always leave feeling grounded, relaxed and refreshed!
Your first float at Iowa Recovery Room
Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.
