Water & cleaning at The Sauna & Soak Lounge, Trenton

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From The Sauna & Soak Lounge, Trenton's own information: down to a 1-micron filter, UV sterilization, ozone.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

From the reviews

First time trying the the float Soak. I was warmly greeted by the office staff and checked in quickly. The clean and bright smells when I walked in were lovely. I had to buy some of their perfume on the way out. After a quick tour of the different sauna rooms, Bathroom and powder room, I was taken to my float room.

I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. This place is very welcoming, beautiful, clean and the vibe is absolutely amazing! Tyler’s customer service was top notch! I love the concept and benefits it provides to people. I tried the infrared sauna and the float therapy.

We walked in and were quickly greeted by a welcoming staff. We were taken on a tour around the facility to answer all our questions and learn about all their services. We tried out the sauna and float room and came out feeling so relaxed.

I have recently tried the cold plunge for my first time. About a year ago I experienced my first float and saw that a new location would me opening off of Trenton Rd. I was extremely excited to try the cold plunge at the new studio since I’ve been wanting to try it.

Your first float at The Sauna & Soak Lounge, Trenton

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
