The tanks & rooms here

The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what The Float Loft runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🌊Open float (no lid)

No lid to close over you — the answer for anyone who feels boxed in. Open pools, open rooms, or pods whose door stays open.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🚪Float Cabins

A walk-in enclosure with full standing height — for taller floaters and anyone who wants privacy without a low lid.

🛁Float Rooms

The room itself is the vessel: no hatch, walk straight in. Great for claustrophobia and easier access.

Water & cleaning at The Float Loft

Sanitation is the thing seasoned floaters care about most, and most directories never show it. Between every float, the salt water should be pumped through fine filtration and disinfected — salt alone is not enough. From The Float Loft's own information: ozone.

The float-industry standard is turning the entire volume of water over at least three times between sessions through a 1–10 micron filter, paired with UV and/or hydrogen peroxide or ozone. If a center doesn't publish its process, it's fair to ask.

From the reviews

Update 7/14/2023: Under new management but the experience remains the same. Great front staff, clean rooms and huge float tanks. I drifted off pretty quickly while focusing my mind on my breathing. Before too long the session was over but I managed to get a good 30-minutes of sleep.

I had quite a bit of trouble booking because the gift card my husband bought me was actually a credit on his account. Once we got that straightened out, I was able to book my red light therapy and float session. The red light therapy was not my favorite.

First time I had floated and loved it. I bought additional sessions for a gift and purchased a membership. The place was clean and the girl at the front was very nice and helpful. For future reference, I would take a bag to put your clothes and stuff in - there is a lot of salt EVERYWHERE in the rooms.

My husband surprised me with a trip to the float loft last weekend for our anniversary. Let me just say, it was an AMAZING experience. I have done floats before in Louisville - but this facility is definitely my favorite between the two! I did a float, and we both did a massage and the sauna!

Your first float at The Float Loft

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
