From the reviews
My experience here was amazing. The staff were all super welcoming and kind, and Beth gave the most amazing myofascial release massage. I left feeling so relaxed and cared for. I already have my next massage booked because of how amazing of an experience I had. I will be trying the float soon too!!
my husband and I were visiting Portland and wanted to treat ourselves to some relaxation - This was just the spot! He wanted a massage and I wanted to float. We loved the convenience to schedule online. My husband loved his massage with Sarah! I found my first float experience to be really wonderful, too!
I found Maine Massage & Float completely by accident when looking to get a gift certificate for my husband for a real deep tissue massage outside of a spa experience. Now we are both true fans and see Shelby. She has a way of finding exactly what ails you and actually working with you to fix it.
My first time floating and wow it was incredible! The massages were nice the staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and even suggested other things to try in Portland. This is not a typical massage. I would say this more of a sports massage, but the kinks were worked out none the less.
Your first float at Maine Massage & Float
Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.
