The vessel type is the single biggest thing to get right — especially if enclosed spaces make you uneasy. Here's what Florida Float Spa St. Pete runs, drawn from their own site and reviews.

🥚Float Pods

The classic enclosed capsule with a hinged lid. Deepest sensory deprivation; you lie down and pull the lid to.

🚪Float Cabins

From the reviews

My experience doing flotation therapy for the first time was very serene and surreal! I’m writing a detailed review for those trying this for the first time that want to know more about what to expect. :) St. Pete Salt Works keeps a very clean and inviting establishment.

Did my first "float" today. Very relaxing and my skin feels great. I floated nude, with all lights off, for full sensory deprivation, but you can wear clothes or keep lights on if you prefer. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and you get a private shower area within your locked spa area.

Great place to experience my first float tank experience. Their staff give a very detailed explanation of all their services and what to expect during your float. The facilities are clean and well maintained. They provide towels, waterproof ear plugs, q tips, shampoo, and soap in your float room.

I have yet to find a float experience that is not incredibly relaxing and de-stressing. If you're looking to float, Florida Floats is a great spot with good value options. I appreciated the ease of booking online. When I arrived a bit early they already had me set up and ready to go.

Your first float at Florida Float Spa St. Pete

Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.

Floating isn't for everyone: skip it with epilepsy, kidney disease, uncontrolled heart conditions, open wounds, a contagious condition, or in the first trimester of pregnancy without your doctor's OK. If in doubt, ask the center and check with a physician — this is general information, not medical advice.
