I had my first float session on my birthday a Float in New Orleans, along with a great facial, and it was just the type of pampering I needed on my special day. The float session I was hesitant at first about it — and even at one point sat up in the egg like tank I was in because the darkness and heat just got to me —…
I recently heard about flotation therapy and told myself "You know what? I mind as well give this a shot!" Overall, the experience was pleasant indeed! The purpose of float therapy is to close off from the outside world, allowing your mind to unwind and flows freely, releasing dopamine and endorphins from the brain,…
I found Lydia & Float NOLA when they were on Magazine Street several years ago. I love coming to her for facials. I really appreciate her calm nature and common sense skincare advice. If you are looking for a kind and knowledgeable esthetician that isn’t promoting specific lines just great skincare, she’s the best!
We had an absolutely incredible experience at Float NOLA! We decided to go because our flight landed at 5 a.m., and the hotel wasn’t ready until the afternoon—so it was the perfect way to relax and reset. I treated myself and a friend to a massage, a facial, and reflexology, and each service was pure magic.
Your first float at Float Nola
Never floated before? Almost no one has their first time, and a good center expects it. Here's what to know. What it is: you float effortlessly in about ten inches of skin-temperature water saturated with around 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt — so dense you cannot sink. In the dark and quiet, with no light, sound, or gravity to react to, your nervous system downshifts. Before you come: don't shave or wax for a day beforehand (salt stings fresh cuts — they'll have barrier ointment if you nick yourself), skip caffeine, eat a light meal an hour or two before, and remove contacts. If you colored your hair recently, wait a few days. In the tank: shower first, put earplugs in before you get wet, and keep a fresh-water spray bottle within reach for salt in the eyes. You can leave the light or music on until you settle, then turn them off from inside. Hold your arms out for the first 20–30 seconds to stop bobbing, then let go. It takes a few tries — the first 20 minutes are usually your mind winding down. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to shower and get oriented.
